Angel Capital Association

The mission of the Angel Capital Association is to increase the success of member angel groups.

ACA accomplishes this mission by providing professional development, best practices, networking and collaboration opportunities for angel investors who belong to member angel groups.

About the Angel Capital Association

The Angel Capital Association is a trade association that supports angel investment groups in North America. ACA was founded by angel investment groups located in the United States and Canada to help maximize the success of group based angel investors. This association has been established to:

  • Improve angel group investing through education and collaboration of best practices by sharing:
    • experiences related to starting, growing, and sustaining angel groups
    • the current operating and investment processes of the more established angel groups
    • best practices in screening, due diligence, selection, and exit preparation
    • best practices in advising, mentoring, and serving on the boards of directors of portfolio companies
  • Coordinate co-investment and syndication across angel investment groups
  • Help disseminate information to ACA members regarding state or federal public policy that may affect angel investing
  • Promote the growth and importance of the angel investment group industry, attracting more individual angels to groups and stimulating communication with promising entrepreneurs, other equity investors and policy makers
  • Provide access and discounts to products and services of interest to angel groups and their members

About ACA Member Angel Groups

As of September, 2008 ACA has 165 member angel groups and another 22 organization as affiliates throughout North America. These angel groups:

  • Fund approximately 700 new companies each year, and have an on-going portfolio of more than 5,000 entrepreneurial companies throughout the United States and Canada
  • Have as their members about 7,000 high-net-worth individuals, all of whom are “accredited investors” under SEC guidelines, with a net worth of at least $1 million, an annual income of at least $200,000, or both. Many, if not most, have a net worth many times that minimum requirement.
  • These individuals also serve on thousands of other public and private boards. For example, one group in the Northeast, CommonAngels, has 67 members who currently serve on the board of directors of over 160 companies, including 19 public, 77 private and 65 non-profit companies; in the past, they have served on over 400 boards, including 58 public, 217 private and 134 non-profit.

History and Organizational Structure

Following a series of information “Angel Organization Summits,” ACA officially came into being in January, 2004 and in August, 2006 it was incorporated as a professional association. It is a 501c6 non-profit organization. ACA is governed by a nine-member board of directors, with more than 50 members serving on operating and program committees. ACA often works in concert with the Angel Capital Education Foundation on data, research, and education programs.
